30 more minutes at work then off to the comic store. Can’t wait, the cover is amazing.

wow. and wow. do you put the word balloons on the page when you draw it or do youad them in after. I see very few comic pages that have the balloons in the art. I know cerebus had it like that. just curious.

im pretty sure rob inks them in there. a great technique indeed! i just picked this up as well(foodone’s cover looks amaaaazing in person btw). im gonna clean up my desk and draw a bit before i really sit and enjoy this book.

also rob, not sure if its too soon, but is there any way i could purchase a page from scud? i’ve been wanting one for more than ten years now!

    oh also rob…

it’d be really cool to have an ‘art of scud’ issue. i’d really like to see all your background work, sketches and what not throughout the series.

it’d sell good! cause these books definitely are!

Most intense single page action sequence I have ever seen. And the tunnel conversation page… too cool.

Were the scud feet cut and paste from the first issue?

    Thanks.

Yep. I cut and pasted those right from the first issue by hand. Silly but fitting.

Yeah; cool with the feet from issue one. I also got a kick/maybe rolled my eyes just a little at the self-referential “Robot Bastard!” and “Where’s the Mountain Dew?” (Who am I kidding? I loved it.)

(I usually write very short, non-specific comments here, so, for a change…)

    Other things I loved:
-The covers, pinups* (though we’ve already seen them in smaller, digitized forms for some time now), and credits art continuing to be so very AWESOME.
    -Ben’s $100 bill backdrop.
    -Ben’s ‘Spider Legs’ trophy.
-Drywall having gotten so good at pullin’ the right stuff out (what a sweet ‘power’ to have finally mastered…).
-”You were so much more interesting when you spoke gibberish.” Well, at least more adorable.
    -”I refuse to give up.”
    -”TenNapel!” as a sound effect.
-Pretty much all the descriptive words used as sound effects (especially “Thumb!” and “Gross!”). Oh, and I really love “Voopa!”, too.
-The ceaseless and incredible fight scene, in general.
    -Jeff’s terrified reaction to System.
-The wonderfully creepy arm thing that System summons to grab Drywall; I am always in awe of how disturbing you can make such things, Rob. Truly nightmare monster type stuff. Just brilliant.

Seeing Drywall turn on Scud was heartbreaking.

Whew! That’s all for now, but thanks again for another great issue; I thought that this one was better than the last, and I can only hope that continues. (The artwork is always fantastic. I do find myself missing more humor in them, but then how much humor can one expect when dealing with the subject matter?)

Thanks again again, good job, and have a great day,
    ~Ethan

*Who did each of the pinups?

Tenapel as a sound effect was pretty damn funny! :)

Oh yeah, and I wanted to second shane’s idea for an ‘Art Of Scud’ (‘Art Of Schrab’?) book/issue; that would be fantastic.

And do you plan on selling pages again anytime?

    Please please please…

Rob, didn’t pick it up quite yet, I was planning on picking it up this weekend when I pick up the new Super Smash Bros. Brawl from the store across the street from the local comic shop (I’m sure you care, but it’s a train of thought without brakes). I noticed in the last issue and was saddened, did you not do a Soundtrack to the issue, or movie cast for this issue too?

I know you can’t add those now to the books that you’ve already done for this mini-series finale, but hope that you can put together something like that for the big book of awesome (Which I really hope comes out in Hardcover). The quote references in the beginning, soundtrack, and casting were extremely entertaining and most appreciated.

This book had some of the best art of the entire series. You’ve always pushed the envelope with your page layouts, but a page with 34 panels!? Wow.

Awesome issue! Your art style seems even better than the old days.

Nice touch with all the “new” Scuds having pill shaped heads like our Scud used to. Scud heads must become squarish with time.

yeah that 34 panel page was tight. Drawing that small is a bitch. so kudos to you. also I call dibs on the pages where the horse first shows up, yeah right but I can wish right? I’d say that I love the imperfect use of tones. I ripping that technique off for sure. Indy comics forever!

Hey Rob, you used to put a voice actor list in the inside cover. Who would voice Drywall’s english voice now?

22 was awesomeness in a bag. Scud versus 20 Scuds, Jeff, and Ben at the same time is the biggest ending ever (until you blow people’s minds with the freak-out in 23.) I guess Voodoo Ben cut some costs, because those new Scuds were going down like bowling pins. Still pretty goddamn dramatic, though. I’d like to know who did those pin-ups too.

But I’m going to have to disagree with you on one point: Your biggest and best gunfight doesn’t exist yet. Until then, I’ll just settle with “challenge of the Over-used Muse.”

When Jeff said “We’re gonna have a good time!”, that’s a nod on Ringwald an Molly, right?

Hey, Scud 21 got a good write up in the Onion AV Club (http://www.avclub.com/content/node/75481).
And hey, Jeff couldn’t come up with a good Twigger line to spout?

Dude, Voodoo Ben bit it hard… awesome! I felt really good about that. He was such a dick.

The biggest shock for me was Drywall turning into a complete badass. I never really paid attention to the fact he was a kid back in the day, and therefore could change so much in 10 years. And I second Patrick’s praise for “VD Ben’s” long-awaited demise…total douche-bag. BTW, what does “IHR” stand for? It was inscribed on the sword used by one of the Seraphim in #20 to dismember Sussudio.

Well done Rob, and I can’t thank you enough for this fantastic series.

Intense issue, Rob. I loved every page. It was surprising to see Jeff suddenly start spouting catch phrases from works you’ve done throughout your career (I won’t spoil where they’re from for people who don’t know. They’ll have to dig through your oeuvre to find out for themselves, but I will say that the intonation and delivery of “Where’s the Mountain Dew” is so classic that I can hear it in my head as if it were coming through speakers).

Can’t wait for the last two issues, but now that we have Scud back after so long, it will be bitter-sweet to have an end to new Scud tales.

Has anyone else seen Southland Tales. I only bring it up because the catch phrase of #22( which was utterly awesome) “I’m a cowboy, and I’ll never quit” reminds me of Tales’ “I’m a pimp and pimps don’t commit suicide.”

Rob, I saw a link for the Omni-bus posted, a July 24th release, for 19.99? That’s ridiculous for the value you receive.

But more importantly, it was soft-cover only, are there no plans to release a Hardcover edition that so many of us want so bad?

For a comparison I was looking at the offerings of Jeff Smith with Bone, which was printed in a 1332 page book which retailed for twice what you are asking for a approx. 750 page book, and also launched with a hardcover edition.

What are the plans going forward? Are you seriously letting it go for so cheap? Lastly, please reconsider at least a limited hardcover release. :(

19.99 is a misprint. It will be 30.00

There will be a limited edition hardcover for 100.00

    Rob,

#1, Thanks for the ridiculously quick reply, #2, holy shit you are making a Hardcover, that is just awesome.

    Thanks so much!

Rob can you tell us what’s going to be in the limited hardcover edition?

everything that’s in the soft cover.

One more question on the Hardcover, are you only releasing it to a limited audience? Or is this something I should be able to go down to my local shop and pick up (Or at least order from).

I just wanted to make sure it’s not going to be a conference exclusive or something.

Can’t wait to pick it up. :D
