Soon to be famous, Steve Agee stopped by and interviewed me. Here is that short but sweet talking:
Rob, I watched The ‘Bu #10 for the first time not 5 minutes before you posted this and I couldn’t stop laughing. Seriously, I wanted to pay attention to the stuff about Scud, because I grew up on Scud and he’s still lodged way deep in my head. But all I could picture was you with long stupid hair, wildly drunk and falling over the ninja treasure map.
What a damn shame.
Rob, do you plan on using anything like Illustrator to do any cleanup work or are you doing it all freehand?
Rob, if it’s not too intrusive, may I ask what type of paper, ink, and pencils you use? And what sort of thing do you do when you come up with pages or even full plots of books, do you do storyboards?
Thanks.
Hey Rob, seeing as you’re answering some questions there’s something I’ve been wondering. Is there some significance to the number 21? I’ve never read Scud so maybe this is something most people here already know. When I first heard about Scud and the “missing issue 21” it, for whatever reason, made me think of the “missing 21st chapter” of A Clockwork Orange.
Here’s an excerpt from the author’s introduction to the “full 21 chapter” version:
“21 is the symbol for human maturity, or used to be, since at 21 you got the vote and assumed adult responsibility… Novelists of my stamp are interested in what is called arithmology, meaning that number has to mean something in human terms when they handle it. The number of chapters is never entirely arbitrary… Those twenty-one chapters were important to me…”
Anyone interested can read the whole thing here: http://www.geocities.com/malcolmtribute/aco/acoresucked.html
Anyway, I’m looking forward to being able to get the whole Scud series in one convenient package and finally see what it’s all about.
I was rereading Heavy 3P0 and Programmed For Damage today and the art in Programmed seems twice as good as the art in 3P0. Not that the art in 3P0 was bad, but it seems like Programmed was so much more detailed. I was wondering why that is.
Actually, I was going to have one of the blogs be a step by steo How to make a comic book page THE SCHRAB WAY! I just don’t want to take too much time away from actually drawing pages so maybe on my downtime.
I think I may start saying that issue 21 was a Clockwork Orange reference. And that I planned on waiting a ten years on purpose.
Do it, you’ll get all sorts of art-y cred for your book that way, and people will put all sort of additional analysis into it.
fantastic intro song.
butthole surfers.
keep your head up, we are all in a froth about scud fulfilling his density…i mean destiny.
SCUD FAN FILM-
I feel like I should have a competition or something.
Hooray for Steve Agee.
Question, was the Josh Mason I found the correct Josh Mason? Just hoping it was really him.
These Vlog’s are mega-neat
Plus I’m a sucker for all things Scud so I can’t wait to read the last issue.
When are we gonna see Robot Basterd comics
HA HA ! Or at least one-shots here and there, that’s be cool.
Cheers

Not a bad idea. I still would like to know if there’s any fan film intertest in Scud.
Woohoo! Neutral Milk Hotel!
Hey Rob,
Monster House is nominated for best animated feature. You gotta feel pretty good about that. Congrats!
Aside from the claymation, how many other Scud fan films are out there?
I’m totally regressing to my 12 year-old self and it’s all your fault. Thanks!
I would be super-interested in doing a Scud Fan Film.
Do it. I’ll post it here!
He’ Geoff Weber’s Claymation Scud from 1998! Love it!
Send more fan films!
Scud TIMELINE
Maybe it’s because I can’t vividly remeber Star Wars but I don’t see relatively anything that movie and Scud really have in common. Scud is it’s own entity… oh that 3PO thing if you want to get nit picky.
Is Josh Mason the artist that was in Bco 24Infantry during the gulf war and loves the Butthole surfers?
Rock on, king of carrot flowers, my favorite NMH song.
