remember when this guy used to just write comics?
now he’s writing OSCAR Night Opening Acts for Hugh Jackman.

amazing what can happen in 15 years.

This was the only thing I tuned in for. It was like having dessert first… I knew the rest of the meal didn’t stand a chance.

Rob, any behind the scenes video of building the set pieces? What happened to them after the Oscars? Ebay?

Somewhere, Billy Crystal is trying to figure out which songs you parodied.

I’m not clever enough to write words that do justice to how awesome that piece was. TRULY awesome, not just in the overused sense, but literally, it inspired my awe. Greatest moment in Oscar history, EVER, bar none.

How’d you manage to land the gig in the first place? I thought the Academy was created to SUPPRESS creativity like yours!

How did you guys get the gig anyway? Did they know roughly the kind of thing they wanted to do and your names came up because you have a reputation for pulling awesome ingenius zero-budget entertainment (even if in this case I doubt it really was zero-budget), or was it only after you were the writers that the idea got formed?

    Best intro EVER!
I love the songs. The Reader w/ the weird sprockets dancers.

    Rob,
Great, GREAT job! My sister and I were so impressed. We both agreed that this was the best Oscar show we’ve ever seen, and it was your funny humor that made it. One has to be from the midwest with that kind of skill. (No offense to other areas, but the midwest has lots of funny characters!) It’s damn cold here, we have to get laughing to warm up somehow. :) Again, congrats Rob. Sincerely, Milwaukee Girl.

just watched it a second time – loves it! being born and raised, and still living, in mil-town, i found the humor to have mke influences… so funny, the best oscar pre-show to date! loved the lawn chairs and “cardboard” oscars! thanks and hope to enjoy more of your work in the future:)

Thanks for sharing those sketches! The Batpod was fine, but I´d love to see your version of Iron Man :S

    Good work, good opening!

Oh my god. I was sitting there like “This opening is pretty cool… what the hell does it remind me of?” I couldn’t put my finger on it. I just now check your blog and, of course, you worked on it. This was really, really cool, man.

I was wondering if we were going to get a chance to see the stuff that got rejected by the suits in hollywood. I’m excited. Make us proud! :-D

I knew those cardboard sets looked familiar! I just checked on the site recently and I just found out you and Dan worked on this! Awesome work! “The Reader” segment was my favorite, it nailed exactly how I felt about that film.
