On page 50, Scud 21 will come out later than planned

Sorry guys. I’m working on the second season of the Sarah Silverman show and I can’t fill my “page a day” schedual. I’m averaging 3 and a half pages a week instead of six. The plan was to have a 32 page finale done in time to be in the 650 page Scud mega-book for comic con. I really don’t see that happening now.

The reason is- I can’t just crap out a 32 page ending. This is Scud, I have to do this right. The book will be most likely over sixty pages. I will keep you up to date of my progress and do vlogs as long as they don’t interfere with the drawing. I’m still shooting for summer but Comic-con isn’t going to happen ( I’ll be shooting anyway).

Very sorry. Maybe you’ll be more forgiving if I give you a sneak-peek-

    Question:

What do Abraham Lincoln, Truman Capote and us all have in common?

    Answer:

    They all love you!

What?! God that sucks. Though I am glad yer not just crapping this out. Scud deserves your full attention and I know you’ll do it justice – it just sucks you’re making me wait and it sucks that Scud is taking the back burner over some Sarah girl. Like a boy growing up and realizing that if he wants a shot at the cute girl in class he’s gonna hafta grow up and put away his toys and comic books.

Do whatchya gotta do. I’ll be waiting. Like a girl getting stood up on prom night.

I don’t mind the wait if it means some more pages. I know you’ll make this last issue great. Will you still be attending comic-con though?

Do your best man. I’m probably not going to make it to Comicon anyway. Bully for you for sticking with this anyways in the face of more prestigious work.

The preview is absolutely beautiful!!!! I can’t wait to see the finished book. By the way, the tones are kick-ass as usual. Great Job!!!!

Don’t be sorry Rob, the preview looks friggin’ sweet! Keep up the great work. I’m just stoked to see this baby complete, however long it takes.

I’m curious about the zip-a-tone question too? Where do you get it? Do you make your own? Did you rob the factory before they stopped making it?

You have no reason to apologise.

If people ask you to apologise, kick’em in the nuts and apologise for that.

I concur! The preview looks fucking amazingly amazing! I don’t care how long you take, and in fact, thanks for taking your time and not botching something that means so much to all of us fans and yourself. I’d wait ten more fucking years!!! I wouldn’t like it, but I’d wait! You’re doing a great job all around.

Oh, by the way, are you going to be at Comic-Con?

Ya know what, I’ve waited 10 years for some more Scud. I can wait an extra couple o’ months. Will the Omni be pushed back as well?
The sneak-peek shows that you are definitely in top form, I applaud you on taking the extra time to do it right.

It looks amazing Rob. I wish you luck. I can’t wait for it. But do whatever you need to do, you’re stressing out enough as it is with this book, and working on the new show and all.

Just good luck, you’ve made a lot of sacrifices to get this done, and all I can say is THANK YOU. I can’t wait to see the full product, but i’m not going to bitch at you because its not fast enough.

You’re one man doing this huge ass book all by yourself, after not doing comics seriously for so many years, this is an achievement by any mans standards, but you’ve surpassed so many expectations so far.

Don’t let a few pricks get you down, Go Rob! Go!

Thats okay Rob, if you are still going to be at Comic-Con, I’ll give you one of my comics even if you wont have one of yours to sell to me. :)

Holy shit i almost cried. I never imagined i’d ever see the moment after the last panel of Scud. I don’t care how long it takes, it’ll be done when it’s done. Rock the Casbah, Rob!

Take it slow if you have to. I’d rather see Scud 21 in 2 years and an amazing book than one you had to rush through just to try and make us happy. Have fun making Season 2 by the way!

    ANSWERS:
-Most likely I will not be going to comic con because “I’ll be shooting.”

-Scud 21 will be available only in the Omni book, so yes this is pushing back that date as well.

    – Yes, it will be worth the wait.

Well, I’m bummed that you’re not attending Comic-Con, but stoked for new Sarah episodes…it’s kinda like I shit my pants in front of everyone at a party, but still nailed the hottie I’d been eye-balling in the corner all night. Right on, Rob, keep on keepin’ on. Take your time and don’t burst anything in that genius head of yours.

Oh, and just in case it hasn’t been said enough, thanks again for doing this. I went back and re-read issues 1-20 and got all sorts of geeky all over again. Thanks, dude.

    Yikes!! 60 pages Rob?!?!?!! O.O

You have nothing to apologize for, btw, all us real fans of the comic have faith in you on this. Glad you are working on the second season of the show though. It’s very funny, and to have to wait a long time between seasons would suck.

I really want the comic now, and it’s too bad you won’t be getting the exposure of the SDCC, but do it right. Take your time, take your time…

    Best,
    michael ;)

shit rob….take your time man….I have waited my whole “comic collecting life” for this, and I can wait for some quality product….

also Rob… how do you do the zip tone? I have been trying to do the effect….but to no avail… whats your secret?

P.S. Any art for sale?! I have been bothering your for years :P

  31. Gravatar Icon
    31 joel cook

actually… guys I think he is using old zip tone…you can see it on Scud’s shoulder!

KUDOS Rob, for kicking it old school!!!!

(where do you get that stuff?!)

I had a lot of pages of zip-a-tone left over from the old days. I recently ran out and had to do a huge city -search to find an Art supply store (Graphaids) that still sold them. They were all stacked up ready to be thrown out by the time I tracked them down so I grabbed the lot of them-just to be safe.
I love hand-cut zip-a-tone. It’s so much more organic than computer-dots (which we used from Scud 13-18). I wish I never did that. A lot of the style was lost during that run.

    Back to work…

Certainly looking awesome. And hell, I’ve waited a decade or so for this, so whats a few more months eh? =)

Definitely looking forward to it though. 64 pages of Scud = Sheer awesomeness.

I always liked how the zip-a-tone didn’t always follow inside the lines, it gave the art interesting feel. Does David Hartman use pens because if he does all my favorite artists do.

man id kill to find some pages of that. just seems so much more aesthetic doing it by hand.

Thank you for being honest with the book and the fans. I think I speak for all of us….except boob, that we would rather have you take your time, than dish out some rushed end product. You have a life too, sir. great news by the way that the Sarah Silverman show is getting a second season. Nothing like steady work. We have already waited about a decade, whats a few more weeks.

I found Zip-a-tone-like stuff at Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster. It was packaged for manga books. I bought a few sheets, but have yet to use them.
