How to hook a light bulb to battery

Can someone teach me how to hook a mini light bulb(s) up to a switch and battery?

This concept has always evaded me. Anyone know of a “How to website” with step by step pictures?

I want to add a little pazzaz to my Card board robots.

I’ll ask my dad and get back to you. He’ll definatly have a answer. but somebody will probably beat me to telling you.

oh,and your best bet might be larger sized LEDs cause the filaments on a light bulb when its hooked up to a battery won’t last that long with out some resitance, but then you gotta battle it being too dim.

I didn’t understand any of that. You have to understand I’m not smart at all. I’d need pictures to “get it.”

    Any ideas?

you basically attatch one wire to the side of the metal part of the bulb, and the other to the bottom contact, run a charge through it…and voila! light

Here’s a HOW TO… with pictures. Please don’t blame me if you burn your house down.

Step one: Go down to your local RadioShack and pick up something like this (The number of batteries you will need will be determined by the maximum voltage for your LEDs…or vice versa):
    http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062254&cp=2032058.2032230.2032264&parentPage=family

It holds batteries AND has a switch, so it saves you a step

Step two: get yourself some LEDs (As already suggested)...here is an assorted pack (They take a lower voltage, so you would want a battery holder designer for two AA type batteries):

Step three: connect the wires of the battery holder to the leads of the LED’s, wiring them in parallel as opposed to in a series.

If you have any questions, or would like me to make up some pretty diagrams for you, feel free to email me at foxymcfox[a]gmail.com (Replace the [a] with a @).

I know how to do this sort of stuff, but how you do your videos eludes me…I only hope that someday I can learn your secrets. That sounded creepy, I realize, but if you need any more help I will be more than willing to walk you through basics of simple circuit wiring.

1.5 volt bulb and a D cell battery should work. You can get stuff like that at Radio Shack.

P.S LEDs (light emitting diodes) will probably be the better way to go.

hahaha, awesome. yeah its super simple. if you bring that diagram to a radio shack, they’ll find everything you need.

just go to radio shack & tell them what you’re trying to do. it might seem a little intimidating at first, but just like that ch101 diagram shows it’s pretty straight forward. just think of it as a car: you need enough horsepower (batteries) to go faster (more lights). but you can’t go hog wild with power or you’ll fry it.

soldering could be a little bit of a pain so you should definitely get a bunch of extra parts when you fubar. just remember to heat the solder and not the wires, so when the solder melts it drips onto the parts you’re trying to join.

you should be able to get a complete soldering kit for $10 MAX at radio shack. have them walk you thru how to use it if you’re still not sure. “see one, do one, teach one” is still the best way to learn. they might even have a little freebie pamphlet for you.

i’d also get a roll of electrical tape. cheap and it’ll let you put it all together a little better.

If all else fails, you could always hit the local Big Lots and just gut whatever toys they have there.

My sil is trying to put led lights in rubber rats for halloween, would this work for him also. The only thing, Radio Shack sold him the big D cell battery holder for this project and told him to use th 1.5 volt bulb.
